Birdhouse in Your Soul by They Might Be Giants has always been my favourite song of theirs so I decided to get the blue canary in an outlet (by the lightswitch) tattooed on my left shoulderblade. I thought about getting the words “Make a little birdhouse in your soul” tattooed on me, but this seemed so much more intimate and personal to me then words. Because it turned out just how I pictured it in my head, and words are just words.
As we went through the long process (there had to be 5/6 drafts in all) of getting it right I got more and more excited. So excited I powered through it in one go and the longest; my 2 previous tattoos took were 30 minutes total.
I am in love with it. Ryan did an amazing job. I have to admit that I listened to Birdhouse in Your Soul non-stop for the last half-hour of my car ride home after getting it done. An added bonus is that for the 100 people who don’t get it there’s that 1 person who gets it and goes berserk. I mean absolutely INSANE. First over the idea and now over the finished product. I absolutely love meeting them.
Now I have a blue canary watching over me all the time from my left shoulder, and yes I do have a little birdhouse in my soul.
